The Solution

Families Not Fugitives is an awareness and advocacy campaign designed to humanize the experiences of undocumented immigrants and challenge the harmful narratives surrounding immigration. Through a cohesive system of posters, brochures, and promotional materials, the campaign provides educational resources while encouraging empathy, community support, and policy reform. Its mission is to remind audiences that immigrant families deserve dignity, protection, and the opportunity to thrive.

The challenge was to create a campaign that balanced emotional storytelling with practical advocacy while appealing to multiple audiences, including undocumented individuals, mixed-status families, and allies seeking to learn more about immigration issues. The design also needed to communicate the seriousness of family separation and mass deportation without relying on overwhelming statistics or fear-based messaging. Creating a visual identity that was both impactful and hopeful required careful consideration of symbolism, color, and imagery.

The final campaign uses a bold red, white, and blue color palette to reclaim patriotic symbolism and connect the issue of immigration to the values of freedom, justice, and opportunity. Visual elements such as prison-like bars, photographs of immigrant children, and the torch-and-butterfly logo create a powerful contrast between confinement and hope. The campaign was extended across merchandise, printed materials, and community outreach assets, creating a unified design system that raises awareness, encourages engagement, and empowers individuals with accessible information and resources
